Camilo R. Gomez

Having practiced academic medicine for over forty years, Camilo R. Gomez has been a leader in the fields of vascular, critical care, and interventional neurology. In fact, he has pioneered some of the most successful and innovative approaches to the treatment of stroke, both conceptually and operatively. Throughout his career, he has mentored countless physicians as part of their undergraduate and postgraduate educational programs, leaving a lasting legacy of specialists who continue to follow in his footsteps.

As a seasoned educator, he is a skillful lecturer, an accomplished communicator, and a sought-after keynote speaker; one who has engaged audiences both nationally and internationally. His conferences predictably convey critical, insightful, and unique points of view, as he typically challenges the listeners to think “out of the box” rather than conforming to the status quo. As a best-selling author, his non-mainstream style is palpable in the pages of his twelve published books, particularly The Downgrading of American Healthcare and, more recently, Empathic Reasoning for Extraordinary Results.

With a solid background in business and as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, he excels at evaluating clinical system operations. His leadership has steered quality improvement teams to achieve significant and measurable successes in process enhancements, earning recognition from prominent healthcare organizations.

Upon witnessing the changes in the landscape of healthcare practice and medical education over the years, he has most recently introduced negotiating concepts borrowed from law enforcement and business as a means to enhance physicians' ability to effectively influence patients, families, peers, students, and administrators. This refocusing is now incorporated into his ongoing search for improving all outcomes, not only optimizing patient health but also enhancing the well-being of physicians, to reduce the pervasive and insidious growth of professional burnout and its associated negative consequences.

As a keynote speaker and consultant, he helps organizations identify the root causes of problems in clinical operations and then craft practical solutions, implement necessary modifications, and ultimately improve their overall performance. In parallel, assists them in developing strategies to systematically negotiate issues related to conflict resolution, while promoting cultural optimization.

He enjoys playing chess, badminton, and pickleball, as he also loves spending time with his wife Kayla, their children, and grandchildren.
